Have you ever thought that The Story about ISIS was kind of fishy? That they just sort popped up in the desert and overcame the nice moderate jihadis to whom the US was sending weapons? That they are a superhuman juggarnaut going to take over the world and coming soon to a hometown near you?
Well, I have. If you think about it, the truth is always kind of…knobbly, unlike made-up stories which have villains and heroes and a plot. The truth has many side-trails and in the end it’s always more interesting than the made-up story.
The Story about ISIS is a made-up story, complete with comic book villains dressed in ninja suits pointing big knives at the cameraman-a threat so terrifying that unless we DO SOMETHING and FAST we are all doomed!
I’m not saying there is no group of vicious bastas tooling around the desert in their Toyotas committing atrocities. That part is true. It’s the superhuman juggarnaut, comic book, “Gaze upon me and tremble” part that is hyped.
But, you say “You wouldn’t be so complacent if they came after you. Where is your compassion?”
I have loads of compassion for their victims, but I live in Deepswamp, Georgia and if they came here, they would be met with a hail of gunfire from just about every household they approached-they’d never get past Savannah alive. ISIS, or Daesh as the Arabs call them (because it’s insulting) are mercenaries surrounded by bored and/or broke adolescents on a misguided hero quest. The adolescents are going to get their young arses killed and that will be that.
The 1,000 or so Chechens are another matter. Tribes from the Caucasus region have been tormenting humanity for a very long time, long before Mohammed was born. But now they have tons of Saudi money, US weapons and the cooperation of Turkey. Yeah, they are scary-but I thought the US had the mightiest military the world has ever known and drones that can shoot through a bathroom window and nail a terrorist while he takes a wizz?
I hate violence, but I’m afraid these guys have to go.
Listen to Isa Munayev, a Chechen commander who was recently killed in the Ukraine: “These are the enemies who murdered my people, who took my country from me,” he said. “If we die, at least we die as soldiers, and not as slaves,” This sounds like the hero of an American action movie; a true patriot-“Give me liberty or give me death!” Well, they gave him death. This is a man who kidnapped men, women and children and cut off their body parts to send to their loved ones with ransom notes. These guys have got to go.
And guess who kicked their arse? The “no-friends-but-the-mountains” Kurds-the men and women of Kobane. Don’t forget it was the Kurdish Peshmerga, not NATO, who saved the Yazidis. And now the tough and clever Persians are on their trail. Their days are numbered; their “brand” will fail. They will slip back to their holes and wait for further instructions and pop up re-branded somewhere else.
OR we will all get serious about cutting off the funding for this crap.
CUT OFF THE FUNDING. They couldn’t even have afforded air fare, never mind tanks and ninja suits- without a whole lot of money from elsewhere.
